Server Ranking System
Every server on Hylist has a rank based on monthly votes. The rank badge next to server names shows their current standing in our community.
How Ranking Works
- Servers are ranked by their monthly vote count, with total votes as a tiebreaker.
- Rankings update in real-time as votes come in.
- Players can vote once per day for each server. Encourage your community to vote daily!
- Monthly votes reset at the start of each month, giving every server a fresh chance to climb.

How Votes Are Counted
Understanding how the voting system works can help you develop better strategies for growing your server's rank. Here's a detailed breakdown of the mechanics behind Hylist's ranking algorithm.
Monthly Votes (Primary Sort)
The primary ranking factor is the number of unique votes your server receives in the current calendar month. Each registered user can vote once every 24 hours for each server. This means a server with 100 active daily voters can accumulate up to 3,000 votes in a 30-day month. Monthly votes reset to zero at the start of each new month (midnight UTC on the 1st).
Total Votes (Tiebreaker)
When two or more servers have the same number of monthly votes, the total all-time vote count is used as a tiebreaker. This rewards servers that have consistently maintained an engaged community over time. Total votes never reset.
Real-Time Updates
Rankings update immediately when a vote is cast. There is no delay or batch processing. This means your server's position can change throughout the day as votes come in. During peak hours, especially at the beginning of a new month, rankings can shift rapidly.
Monthly Resets & Fresh Starts
Every month, all servers start from zero monthly votes. This is a deliberate design choice that creates a fairer and more dynamic ranking system. Here's why monthly resets matter:
- 1. Level playing field - New servers aren't permanently disadvantaged by established servers that accumulated votes over months. Every month is a fresh competition.
- 2. Active communities win - Rankings reflect current community engagement, not historical popularity. A server that was popular six months ago but has since declined won't maintain a high rank on legacy votes alone.
- 3. Strategic opportunities - The first few days of each month are critical. Servers that mobilize their community early can secure top positions and gain visibility that attracts even more organic votes throughout the month.
- 4. Seasonal momentum - If your server runs seasonal events, game updates, or special promotions, the monthly reset lets you capitalize on periods of high activity without being held back by slow months.
Tip: Prepare for Reset Day
Send a reminder to your community on the last day of each month. Let players know that votes reset at midnight UTC and encourage them to start voting again on the 1st. Servers that establish a voting routine from day one of each month consistently rank higher.
Vote Integrity & Fair Play
Hylist takes vote integrity seriously. We use multiple layers of fraud detection to ensure that rankings accurately reflect genuine community support. Our anti-fraud system includes:
Rate Limiting
Each user account is limited to one vote per server per 24-hour period. Attempting to vote more frequently will be rejected. This ensures that a single user cannot artificially inflate a server's ranking.
Account Verification
All votes require a verified Hylist account. This prevents anonymous vote manipulation and creates accountability. Users who abuse the system may have their voting privileges suspended.
Automated Detection
Our backend continuously monitors voting patterns for anomalies such as coordinated bot activity, suspicious IP patterns, or bulk account creation. Fraudulent votes are automatically invalidated.
Manual Review
Our team periodically reviews flagged servers and unusual voting spikes. Servers found to be engaging in vote manipulation may be penalized, including temporary or permanent rank suspension.
If you suspect another server is engaging in vote fraud, please report it through our Discord server. We investigate all reports and take appropriate action to maintain a fair ranking system.
